What this add-on does with your text
When you make a worksheet, the add-on reads the passage you selected, or the document you have open if you selected nothing. It writes the worksheet and the answer key back into that same document.
For Japanese and Korean, the passage is sent to our word segmentation service, because these languages are written without spaces between words and Google Apps Script cannot split them on its own. The service holds the passage in memory only for as long as it takes to answer, and never writes it to disk. We do not store, log, or read your passages, and no person at Kaika Lab sees them.
English and other languages that use spaces are split inside the add-on. For those, nothing leaves your document at all.
What we do record
We record how the add-on is used, so we can tell whether it is worth continuing. Each record holds:
- what happened (installed, first used, worksheet made, limit reached)
- an anonymous identifier
- the settings used, the number of words, and the number of gaps
- the language of the passage
- the date and time
The anonymous identifier is a one-way hash of your Google account address. It lets us tell a returning user from a new one. It cannot be turned back into your address, and we do not hold your address alongside it.
We never record the text of your passages, the name or contents of your documents, or anything you have written.
What we can see about your Google account
The add-on asks for four permissions, all of which are the narrowest ones Google offers for what it does.

The add-on cannot see your Gmail, your Drive, your calendar, your contacts, or any document other than the one it is open in.
Who else gets your data
Nobody. We do not sell, rent, or share anything with third parties, and we do not use your data for advertising.
Our word segmentation service runs on Google Cloud Run. Google acts as our infrastructure provider and processes the request in transit.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Cloze Maker's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How long we keep it
Usage records are kept for as long as they are useful for improving the add-on. Passages are not kept at all.
Your choices
Uninstalling the add-on removes its access to your documents immediately. You can also review and revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Children
This add-on is made for teachers. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that affects you, we will update the date at the top and note the change on this page.
